The 2024 Outstanding Typical Cases of Future Industry Innovation and Development collected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology mainly focus on six major directions of future industries (future manufacturing, future information, future materials, future energy, future space, and future health), collecting three types of typical cases: iconic products, leading enterprises, and typical application scenarios.

On March 21, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the 2024 Outstanding Typical Cases of Future Industry Innovation and Development. A total of 67 iconic products were selected across the six future industry directions, including 11 in the future energy direction. Energy Singularity's "World's First Full High-Temperature Superconducting Tokamak Device - HH70" was selected, the only case in the controlled nuclear fusion field.

HH70 Full High-Temperature Superconducting Tokamak Experimental Device

HH70 is the world's first full high-temperature superconducting tokamak device and also the world's first full superconducting tokamak device developed and built by a commercial company. It achieved its first plasma discharge in June 2024. HH70 was independently developed and built by Energy Singularity and is the first key milestone on Energy Singularity's roadmap for the commercial development of fusion energy. The localization rate of this device exceeds 96%. Under standard design conditions, its plasma major radius is 0.7-0.75 meters, with a maximum field strength of 2.5 Tesla and a central field strength of 0.6 Tesla. HH70 took the lead in verifying the feasibility of the high-temperature superconducting tokamak innovative technical route at the complete device level. In December 2024, HH70 successfully conducted current-carrying experiments exceeding standard design conditions, further improving performance, with its central field strength increased to 1 Tesla and maximum field strength reaching 3.1 Tesla.

HH70 has received widespread attention and high praise globally. In March 2024, HH70 debuted on CCTV's "News Broadcast" upon completion. In August 2024, Nature published a news article titled "Inside China's race to lead the world in nuclear fusion," introducing HH70's work. In November 2024, the International Atomic Energy Agency released the "World Fusion Outlook 2024" report, evaluating HH70 as "The pioneering high temperature superconducting (HTS) tokamak."
