Honghuang 70 Tokamak Central Solenoid Successfully Positioned

On January 29, 2024, the central solenoid (CS) of the Honghuang 70 high-temperature superconducting tokamak device was successfully positioned. With this, all magnets of the Honghuang 70 device have been completely installed.

The operating temperature of the Honghuang 70 central solenoid is around 20K, with an engineering current density of about 90 megaamperes per square meter, providing a magnetic field of up to approximately 2.5T and a maximum change rate of about 8T/s. Its main functions include facilitating plasma breakdown to generate plasma, further enhancing the plasma current, and participating in the control of plasma shape during plasma operation.

The magnet system of the Honghuang 70 device consists of a total of 26 high-temperature superconducting magnets, including 12 toroidal field (TF) magnets, 6 poloidal field (PF) magnets, and 8 central solenoid (CS) magnets.

The Honghuang 70 was designed, developed, and constructed by Energy Singularity, with the overall installation undertaken by China Nuclear Industry Fifth Construction Co., Ltd.
